Objective: 
  Train multidisciplinary and multisectoral 
technical local teams 
specialized in the design, installation, 
and operation of vulnerability 
reduction and damage mitigation 
programs and also in the installation 
of local flood alert systems at minor 
river basins.
What is a Small Valley? 
  One outside major urban areas 
  One without international productive 
investments 
  One without a hydroelectric dam 
  And generally, one without flow or rain 
monitoring
Small Valley Program Goals 
  Community based Disaster Reduction program, 
with the direct participation of public and private 
sectors. 
  Local warning control with appropriate technology 
  Vulnerability reduction within the context of more 
resilient rural development models. 
  Support national state of the art technology to 
monitor flood threats. 
  Transition to a regional technical and training 
support mechanism managed by the private sector. Strategies 
• Incorporate flood vulnerability reduction in 
reconstruction projects 
• Small farmers production enhancement 
projects 
• Municipal reconstruction programs 
• Specific sectors reconstruction projects.
