National Disaster Prevention Department Costa Rican Red Cross
The purpose of this handbook is to provide practical advice on all stages of the natural disasters most likely to strike our region. Scientific and technical complexities have deliberately been left out so that readers can find out quickly what they need to know in order to act.
Because of this, however, the handbook should be complemented with research or professional advice by the relevant authorities, or else by coordinating the appropriate training activities with the Red Cross’ Disaster Prevention Department.
Remember: Preparedness through timely prevention and mitigation measures improves response to any extreme event and reduces vulnerability to natural hazards.
